The Garden Cafe is the small one with a kettle on its signboard on the opposite side of the park from the MAC. It's run by the Ranger Service and is better and cheaper... Jan won't be there - she's attending her son's wedding in Wales (lucky woman!)

SAT 7 JULY - COLMORE SCHOOL SUMMER FAYRE, Colmore J&I Sch. Grove Rd, Kings Heath - more details to follow - possible drinks at Red Lion afterwards, girly wedding chatter???

FURTHER EVENTS FOR 2012 include Jan and Terry's wedding party on 1st September! On that day, we'll be planting the Grove Rd garden and writing down our pearls of wisdom to produce the 'Red Tent Survival Guide for Women'!!! So excited about 2012! DON'T MISS AN EVENT!

ESSENTIAL RED TENT FACTS - and how to find out about our EVENTS...

1. A safe place for women where we affirm and encourage one another, and resist the impulse to be negative towards each other;
2. A place where the artificial barriers that disunite us are torn down;
3. A place where we can be creative, develop, and learn new skills;
4. A place where we can learn how to maximize the positive impact we have on our families, workplaces, communities and world;
5. A place where we can learn to live a life that is more authentic, and more in tune with Nature...

EVENTS ARE USUALLY HELD ONCE A MONTH ON THE 1ST SATURDAY OF EACH MONTH. See RED TENT EVENTS textbox to the left of slideshow just below for details. Unless otherwise stated, minimum age for attendees is 18.

MEMBERS GET TOGETHER BETWEEN MEETINGS ON A LESS FORMAL BASIS TO PURSUE COMMON INTERESTS AND GOALS. ONE-TO-ONE SUPPORT AND COACHING IS AVAILABLE. THE RED TENT IS A NOT-FOR-PROFIT COMMUNITY NETWORK.

THE RED TENT CALENDAR 2012 IS AVAILABLE ONLINE - PLEASE MESSAGE JAN TCHAMANI FOR INFORMATION ON DOWNLOAD. THIS CALENDAR IS AVAILABLE TO MEMBERS ONLY BUT CAN BE COPIED AND GIVEN TO OTHER WOMEN.

The Red Tent (Heart of England) supports ECPAT, a charity which campaigns against child prostitution, trafficking and pornography (www.ecpat.org.uk).

Occasionally we are asked to let people know about events organised by other groups. We publicize information about these in good faith: please check with the relevant organiser that the information given is accurate and up to date to avoid disappointment.

CATCH UP ON OUR RECENT HISTORY...

THE RED TENT (HEART OF ENGLAND) EXISTS TO PROVIDE EVENTS, FRIENDSHIP AND SUPPORT FOR WOMEN IN THE BIRMINGHAM AREA. ALL WOMEN ARE WELCOME AND THERE IS NO MEMBERSHIP FEE.

JAN WAS INSPIRED TO CREATE THE GROUP BY READING A NOVEL: THE RED TENT by ANITA DIAMANT. THIS NOVEL TELLS THE UNTOLD STORY OF OLD TESTAMENT WOMEN, FOCUSING ON DINAH, THE SISTER OF THE 12 SONS OF JACOB, HER LIFE AND LOVES, HER CAREER AND HER ADVENTURES. IN THE NOVEL, THE RED TENT WAS A REAL PLACE FOR THE WOMEN TO SPEND THEIR 'MOONTIMES' TOGETHER, TO GIVE BIRTH, TO REST WHEN SICK, TO DEVELOP THEIR RELATIONSHIPS, TO PASS ON TALES, SKILLS AND WISDOM, TO LAUGH AND WEEP TOGETHER, TO RESOLVE DISPUTES, TO LEARN TO CELEBRATE THE GLORY OF BEING A WOMAN.

URBAN WOMEN NEED THE RED TENT! IT BRINGS US TOGETHER ACROSS ARTIFICIAL DIVIDES CREATED BY SOCIETY, AND ENABLES US TO DISCOVER THE RICH RESOURCE WE CAN BE FOR ONE ANOTHER. IT ALSO BRINGS US CLOSER TO THE NATURAL WORLD, AND TO A MORE AUTHENTIC LIFESTYLE, AS WE DISCOVER WHAT POWERS AND ENERGIZES US...

Diane Parkes, the Women's Editor of the Birmingham Mail produced a 2-page article with information on our organisation and Jan's contact information which appeared in the newspaper on 8th September 2009. Jan wrote articles for the paper over 2 years: each article featuring a different women's organisation in our city: Shakti, Saheli, WAITS, BWERC, Women's Peace Group, Ulfah Arts... Some are available by going to www.birminghammail.net and typing 'Jan Tchamani' into the site search box... We believe in supporting and publicizing the work of others and in co-operative working, providing it meets our success criteria.

Recent Red Tent successes:
1. Level 1 funding from Awards 4 All - Dec 2009
2. Big Lottery funding for Birmingham Women's Calendar project - August 2010 - project closed 'fully compliant August 2011
3. Launch of Birmingham Women's Calendar November 2010

4. Red Tent Calendar 2012 available just before Christmas 2011.
